Va. man gets prison for 2 drunken driving deaths

LOUISA, Va. — A 30-year-old Cumberland County man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the drunken driving deaths of two people.

Media reports say Kenneth G. Wadford was sentenced Thursday in Louisa County Circuit Court for the deaths last June of O’Neal Newman and a passenger on his motorcycle, Joyce Herriot.

The two were struck from behind by a van Wadford was driving. He fled after the accident.

Prosecutors say Wadford had been drinking with friends before the deadly encounter. He pleaded guilty in October to two counts of involuntary manslaughter, hit and run and driving on a revoked license from a previous drunken driving conviction.

Wadford was apprehended after he had hid for several days in a swamp.
