WELCH — Organizers say about 3,000 people received free medical, dental or vision treatment during a three-day health care clinic in southwest Virginia.

Doctors, medical students and other volunteers treated patients from Friday through Sunday during the 14th annual Remote Area Medical Center at the Wise County Fairgrounds.

One of the clinic’s organizers, Teresa Gardner, tells The Roanoke Times  that some patients have lost their jobs and their health insurance.

Other patients have health care insurance but they can’t afford copays or deductibles. Or, they can’t afford vision or dental care.
