Virginia Beach woman celebrates 111th birthday

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach woman who was born when Teddy Roosevelt was president has celebrated her 111th birthday.

Media outlets report that family and friends joined Iris Branch on Wednesday for a birthday party at the Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay retirement home.

Branch’s son, Deon Branch, says she never smoked, rarely drank and worked hard at the motel she and her husband had operated at the Oceanfront.

Branch was born in 1903 and is a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach.
