Chesterfield boy shot at 4th of July celebration

RICHMOND, Va. — Chesterfield County police say a child is in grave condition after being shot in the head by someone who apparently fired a gun into the air at a Fourth of July celebration.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/10DoZKD ) that the 7-year-old boy was walking with his father near a restaurant on the Swift Creek Reservoir were a crowd was gathering for a fireworks display Thursday night. The child fell to the ground, bleeding from the head. He was taken to VCU Medical Center.

Lt. Randy Horowitz said police believe the gunshot wound was the result of someone shooting randomly into the air, not an intentional act. Police are trying to find the person who fired the round.
