Police release ID of man killed by Va. officer

AFTON, Va. — Virginia State Police are releasing additional details about a fatal shooting over the weekend involving an Albemarle County police officer.

State Police said in a release Monday that 21-year-old Gregory Rosson of Crozet was shot after he charged at the officer.

The officer responded to a call of a domestic situation just after 2 a.m. on Saturday at a home in Afton. State police say the officer saw a female being assaulted outside the home by Rosson, and that Rosson then charged the officer, who shot Rosson. No other details were released.

The officer was not identified. He was not injured.

State Police are investigating the shooting.
