Va. inmate charged with killing mother in 1996

BLUEFIELD —  An inmate serving a sentence for robbery has been charged with the 1996 slaying of his mother in Danville.

Danville police told media outlets on Monday that 39-year-old Michael Womack has been transferred from Powhatan Correctional Center to Danville to await trial.

A Danville Circuit Court grand jury charged Womack with first-degree murder in late April.

Womack is accused of killing his mother, Loraine Bessie Womack, on July 10, 1996. Police say he was living with his mother at the time.

Loraine Womack died from blunt force trauma.
