Accrediting agency team visiting U.Va. this week

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — An accreditation review team this week will review governance issues at the University of Virginia following the Board of Visitors’ failed attempt to oust President Teresa Sullivan last year.

University spokesman Anthony de Bruyn tells The Daily Progress that representatives from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools will be in Charlottesville through Wednesday.

The commission put U.Va. on warning in December. It concluded that a minority of U.Va. board members attempted to oust Sullivan. It also said faculty leaders weren’t consulted on or alerted to the decision.

Association president Belle Wheelan says a committee will investigate whether the issues have been resolved.
