Worker sleeping at Va. school causes weapons scare

STUARTS DRAFT, Va. — A construction worker allegedly sleeping off a drug high at a Stuarts Draft middle school caused a scare when weapons were spotted in his vehicle.

The News Leader reports 28-year-old Brent Painter was arrested Friday.

A teacher on parking lot duty found Painter sleeping in his vehicle. The teacher reported that Painter had a gun and crossbow in the backseat, sparking alarm.

Authorities later discovered it was an air-powered BB gun and here were no arrows with the crossbow.

Deputy D.W. Fink, the school’s resource officer, says Painter was charged with public intoxication and obstruction of justice. He does not face weapons charges.

Fink says Painter smoked meth Thursday night and drove to work to sleep it off before his shift on a school sidewalk construction project.
