VDOT awards $16M bridge contract to W.Va. company

ABINGDON, Va. —  The Virginia Department of Transportation has awarded a $16.2 million contract to a West Virginia company to replace a truss bridge near Abingdon.

Orders Construction Co. will build the new bridge adjacent to the existing one, which carries Virginia Route 670 over South Holston Lake.

VDOT spokeswoman Michelle Earl tells the Bristol Herald Courier ( ) that the existing bridge won’t be removed until the new one is completed.

Earl says the project is scheduled to be completed in 2015.

About 2,000 vehicles cross the existing bridge per day.
