Va. War Memorial breaks May attendance record

RICHMOND, Va. — The Virginia War Memorial has set an attendance record for the month of May.

Executive director Jon Hatfield said Monday that more than 11,000 people visited the memorial in Richmond last month. The previous May record was 10,000 visitors in 2012.

Attendance for the month included about 2,000 visitors during the Memorial Day Ceremony on May 27.

Hatfield says the memorial could set a record for the year if the trend continues.
