WVa protesters chained in solidarity with dogs

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — A group of protesters in Huntington thinks people who tie their dogs up for long stretches of time should try it themselves.

Activists chained themselves to trees and a dog house at the city’s Ritter Park on Sunday to advocate for an ordinance banning tethering in almost all circumstances.

A proposal before the City Council would place restrictions on the practice, but not end it. The protesters say it doesn’t go far enough.

City Councilwoman Rebecca Thacker was one of the people chained up for eight hours Sunday. She says tethering a dog is a form of abuse.

The council is scheduled to vote on the proposed ordinance July 13.
