CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The Boy Scouts of America are buying 10,600 acres in Fayette County where they’ll build what they’re calling a “high-adventure base” beside the New River Gorge National River park.
Officials said Monday that the camp — between Glen Jean, Prince and Mount Hope — is expected to attract thousands of scouts from across the country each year and bring as many as 80 full-time jobs and 1,000 seasonal workers to the area.
The adventure base is expected to offer whitewater rafting, rappelling, mountain biking, hiking and other outdoor activities. It’s part of the organization’s new National Scouting Center, which includes a “Jamboree” conference center in Goshen, Va.
