5K RUN/WALK

BLUEFIELD — The 8th Annual Brian Delp Memorial 5K Run and Walk will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Ned Shott Gymnasium. The race begins at 6:30 p.m. Race packets can be picked up between 4-6:15 at the same location. The event is designed to raise funds for the “Humanitarian Athletic Award,” a scholarship in memory of Delp, a former athlete at Bluefield State, who was a very active student leader and athlete with the Big Blues. The Entry is $15 if paid by Sept. 17, and $10 for walkers. Each participant receives a t-shirt and several age groups will be involved. CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — The Glo’ Worm 5K road race will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Cedar Bluff Elementary School. The race begins at 8 p.m. Participants will wear their "Glo'" as they light up the night. The final event of the Walk & Win Challenge is $15 for students, 12 and under, or $25 for adults. The costs increase to $20 and $30 from Oct. 12-19.

EAST RIVER — The East River Soccer Association is currently taking registrations for fall recreation leagues for ages, 3 to adult. All recreation league players are guaranteed to play at least 50 percent of each game. The cost is $50. PEP BAND

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Bluefield College is creating a Stadium Band to support the Rams’ new football program. Local music enthusiasts, Bluefield College alumni and other BC friends are invited to join students, faculty and staff as part of the band, which may develop into a marching band. FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

RICHLANDS, Va. — The 2nd Annual Big Blue Bash football tournament will be held on Nov. 9-10 at Ernie Hicks Stadium. Age divisions include 8u, 9u, 10u, 11u, and 12u.  Entry fee will be 175 per team, and $150 for any team after that from the same organization. There is a two-game guarantee, with a good chance for a third and fourth game. WRESTLING CLUBS

BLUEFIELD — The Forza Wrestling club is now taking applications for boys and girls, K-12, interested in the sport of wrestling. The club practices and participates in matches all year round. For more information, contact David Trigg at 304-320-2496.

KARATE CLASSES

IAEGER — Beginner Karate classes are being taught at Gilbert Shotokan Karate Academy. Classes are for boys and girls, ages 8 and up, and will be held twice each week on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Family rates are available in addition to individual rates.Advanced Karate classes will be taught on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30. IAEGER — Gilbert Shotokan Karate Academy in Iaeger is offering adult karate classes on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-9:30. Youth (7-12) classes are Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p.m. and Monday at 7:30. Kids class (6 and under) is Monday at 5 p.m. Women’s Self-Defense classes are Wednesday at 7:30 to 8:30. MAJORETTE/DANCE CLASSES

PRINCETON — The Princeton Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting new members for the Silverettes Majorette class and dance class. Classes are on Tuesday evenings, with majorettes from 5:30 to 6:30 and dance from 6:30 to 7:30. The first class is free. TENNIS LESSONS

BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Sarver Tennis Club at Sedgewood currently accepts enrollment for the 2012-2013 school term Junior Tennis Program. Also, private lesson appointments are available on a limited basis. Seasonal memberships can be purchased (Sept. 1-May 31) as well. The Tennis Club operates under the direction of Matthew Sarver, USPTR and Steve Sarver, USPTA, USPTR.

ADULT TENNIS LEAGUE

PRINCETON — An adult tennis league is now being held at the Princeton Senior High School courts. Singles are held on Tuesday, with doubles on Thursday. The co-ed league is open to all ages and playing levels. Loaner racquets are available for newcomers. A 10-and-under league will be developed in the spring. For more information, call 888-775-7075.
