FOOTBALL/CHEER REGISTRATION

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Registration for the Bluefield Virginia Lions football and cheerleading program is continuing through the month of July. The cost is $40 per child, with a family rate of $20 for each additional child. Cheerleading registration is $25 per child. YOUTH BASEBALL CLINIC

PRINCETON — The 17th annual Princeton Rays Youth Baseball Clinic will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 3 at Hunnicutt Field. The clinic is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 15. Instructors will be P-Rays manager Danny Sheaffer, his coaching staff, and several P-Rays players. Kids will be instructed in all facets of baseball and an autograph session will follow the clinic. Each attendee will receive a clinic tee-shirt, a bobblehead doll of a member of the Tampa Bay Rays and free admission to the P-Rays’ home game that same evening versus the Burlington Royals. Fee for the clinic is $30 per child. Registration will also be accepted on the morning of the clinic and those registrants will receive a shirt in the mail about 10 days after the clinic. BASEBALL CAMPS

ATHENS — The Concord University baseball team will host a pair of one-day camps on July 26 and Aug. 14. Both will be held at Anderson Field and will run from 1-5 p.m. The cost is $75 each. The camps are for players 14 years old and to those athletes participating in junior college baseball. HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

TAZEWELL, Va. — The Tazewell High School Hall of Fame, Inc., will induct five new members on July 27 at Tazewell High School. The inductees are Robert Marrs, Jack Hawks, James (Jim) Peery, Don Dunford and Don Lee. The banquet will begin at 5 p.m. A portion of the receipts will go toward an endowment scholarship for future THS students. A total of $73,000 out of the goal of $100,000 has been raised by the hall of fame committee. Tickets for the induction ceremony are $30 apiece or $250 for a reserved table of eight. 5K RUN/WALK

PRINCETON—A 5K Family Run Day will be held on Saturday, July 27, at the Johnston Chapel Baptist Church. Entry fees for the 5K Walk/Run ($20 early registration, $25 day of race) and Relay 5K Walk/Run (team of 3, one mile apiece) is $30 or $35. A 100-yard Fun Run dash will be held for kids, ages 3-12. The race will begin at 8 a.m., with registration from 7:30-7:50 a.m. Awards will be given to the top 3 men and women overall finishers, and the top 5K relay team. T-shirts guaranteed to entries prior to July 13. Funds raised will go toward Eric & Kristanna Richardson, who are in church planters in France. GOLF TEAM SIGNUPS

HINTON — Students interested in playing golf at Summers County High School are to report to the Willowwood Golf Course at 4 p.m. on Aug. 5 for practice. All students trying out must have a completed WVSSAC physical form and a completed insurance verification form. These forms are available at the high school. VOLLEYBALL TRYOUTS

PRINCETON — A one-day tryout for all girls interested in playing volleyball at Princeton Senior High School will be held on Aug. 12 from 4-7:30 pm in the school gym. TENNIS TOURNAMENT

RICHLANDS, Va. — The 31st anniversary edition of the Richlands Open Tennis Tournament will take place July 28-Aug. 1 at the Richlands Recreation Department. Categories include children, men, women and mixed doubles. Registration fee is $10 per person per category of participation, and the entry deadline is July 24. Proceeds will support two scholarships at Southwest Virginia Community College supported by Bob Nassif and donors. TENNIS CAMP

BLUEFIELD — Bluefield State tennis coach Louie Belt will host a second Big Blue Tennis Camp of the summer on Aug. 5-8 at the Bluefield City Courts. The camp, which is for boys and girls of all ages, will focus on  improving stroke techniques, strategy and match play as well other aspects of the game. GOLF TOURNAMENTS

PETERSTOWN — The 20th Annual Sports of Monroe Foundation Golf Classic will take place on Saturday, July 27, at Fountain Springs Golf Course. The format is four-person, captain’s choice with shotgun starts at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The tournament has three flights with first and second place prizes awarded in all three flights. Lunch is provided for morning starts and dinner is provided after the afternoon starts. Cost is $280 per foursome. Proceeds will benefit the athletic programs of the Monroe County school system. HONAKER, Va. — The Honaker High School football team will be hosting its annual golf tournament on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Greenway Golf Course in Glade Spring. Registration starts at 8 a.m., with tee times beginning at 9 a.m. Hole sponsorships are $100. The entry fee is $260 for a four-man team. Several prizes will be awarded, including closest to the pin and the long drive contest. The first place team splits $300, and $200 for the second place team. RICHLANDS, Va. — The 2nd Annual Big Blue Bash football tournament will be held on Nov. 9-10 at Ernie Hicks Stadium. There is a two-game guarantee, with a good chance for a third and fourth game.
