Sports calendar for Monday, Jan. 28, 2013

— BASEBALL TRIP

PRINCETON — The Princeton Rays are accepting reservations for their 9th annual Major League Baseball Bus Trip, this year to Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark on Saturday, May 11. The Reds play the Milwaukee Brewers in a 4:10 p.m. afternoon game. The air-conditioned bus will leave Hunnicutt Field at 8 a.m. A stop in Beckley is planned for those in that area who are going on the trip. A short meal stop will take place en route to Cincinnati. The bus will return to Princeton immediately following the game. Cost is $100 per person and includes all transportation fees and game ticket. The first 30,000 people through the gates will receive a bobblehead doll of Cincinnati star pitcher Aroldis Chapman.

The Princeton Rays accept major credit cards to ease ordering by telephone or email.  Since reserved stadium seating is involved, all seats must be reserved and paid in full by April 3 or until the bus is full, whichever happens first. BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS

HONAKER, Va. — The 6th annual Clinch Mountain Basketball Classic Tournament will be held on Feb. 1-3 at Honaker High School and Honaker Elementary School. Boys and girls can participate in grades 2-3, 4-5, 6-7 and 8-9. The entry fee is $125, with team and individual awards given to the top two finishers in each division. HONAKER, Va. — The 7th annual Cutting Down the Nets Basketball Tournament will be held on Feb. 15-17 at Honaker High School. Sponsored by the Honaker Little League, the entry fee is $125 with a three-game guarantee. Divisions will be separated into grades 2-3, 4-5, 6-7 and 8th grades. GARDNER — A basketball tournament that will benefit the baseball program at PikeView High School will take place Feb. 16-17 at the school gym and two other locations. PRINCETON — The Princeton Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting signups for girls basketball ages 8-11 grades third-sixth. The fee is $30 until Feb. 9. Late registration is Feb. 10-17 and the fee is $35.

LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL

TAZEWELL, Va. — Signups for Tazewell Little League are taking place on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Little League field. A copy of the child’s birth certificate and insurance info are required. A late fee applies at the end of February.

HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS

WELCH — Nominations are now being accepted for the 2013 inductees into the McDowell County Sports Hall of Fame. Twelve former coaches, players and supporters will be inducted in May. Ballots may be acquired from the Welch Lions Club, any of the area chairmen or by printing a form off Facebook from the Mighty Welch Lions Clubs Hall of Fame site. Committee chairmen include Fred Schrom, Leroy Johnson, Jerry Horne, Gary Dove and Troy Hawks. Forms can also be sent to the Welch Lions Club, Box 97, Welch, W.Va. 24801. Any questions should be addressed to any of the area chairmen or a member of the Welch Lions Club. The deadline for ballots to be accepted is Jan. 31.

IAEGER — Gilbert Shotokan Karate Academy in Iaeger is offering adult karate classes on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-9:30. PRINCETON — An adult tennis league is now being held at the Princeton Senior High School courts. Singles are held on Tuesday, with doubles on Thursday.
