PRINCETON — Mercer Elementary School will be hosting its First Annual 5K Run/Walk and a Kids Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 20, with all proceeds going to benefit the school's Bible in the School program. On-site registration will begin at 8 a.m. The 5K race will follow at 9, followed by the Kids Fun Run at 10. The cost is $20 for runners, $15 for walkers and $10 for kid’s run. BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield Area Little League will be holding its annual general membership meeting for elections of board members and officers for the 2013 season on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Greater Bluefield Community Center. All those interested are encouraged to attend.

GARDNER — “Spiking for a Cure,” a volleyball game focusing on the eradication of all cancers, will take place on Sept. 26 when the PikeView Lady Panthers face the Narrows Lady Green Wave in Gardner. The JV game starts at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity game. The “Locks of Love” donation will take place during the JV match. All cancer survivors present will be honored between games, and presentations will be made to Emma’s Touch and to the American Cancer Society. BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Graham volleyball team will host its “Play for a Cure” match with Bluefield on Oct. 15 in what will be a breast cancer awareness event. All fans are urged to wear pink, and a raffle will be held with the proceeds donated to the Virginia High School League’s “Play for a Cure” foundation. A brief ceremony will be held before the JV match at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity game starting around 7:15. The event will honor breast cancer victims, from those who have lost their lives to those who are still alive. IAEGER — Gilbert Shotokan Karate Academy in Iaeger is offering adult karate classes on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-9:30. Youth (7-12) classes are Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p.m. and Monday at 7:30. Kids class (6 and under) is Monday at 5 p.m. Women’s Self-Defense classes are Wednesday at 7:30 to 8:30. PRINCETON — The annual Princeton Elks Soccer Shoot will be held Monday, Oct. 1, at the Princeton Rec Center from 7 to 9 p.m. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. The soccer shoot is open to U7–U14 age groups in Mercer, Tazewell and Bland counties.  It will be held indoors, so no cleats are allowed.  There is no cost for participation.  For more information call 304-425-5426.



BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Sarver Tennis Club at Sedgewood currently accepts enrollment for the 2012-2013 school term Junior Tennis Program. Also, private lesson appointments are available on a limited basis. Seasonal memberships can be purchased (Sept. 1-May 31) as well. PRINCETON — An adult tennis league is now being held at the Princeton Senior High School courts. Singles are held on Tuesday, with doubles on Thursday. The co-ed league is open to all ages and playing levels. Loaner racquets are available for newcomers. A 10-and-under league will be developed in the spring. PRINCETON — The Princeton Parks and Recreation Department is having signups for boys basketball ages 9-12, grades 3-6. The fee is $30 until Oct. 21, and $35 for late registration from Oct. 21-31. Signups are also taking place for girls cheerleading ages 4-12, grades 36. The fee is $35 until Oct. 21 and $40 for late registration from Oct. 21-31.



BRISTOL, Va. — The 7th Annual Halloween Havoc Hoopfest sponsored by Virginia Future Stars of Sports will be held on Oct. 27-28 in Bristol.
