Sports calendar for Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013

— FOOTBALL MEETING

BLUEFIELD — Bluefield Middle School football will have equipment handout at the school on Aug. 8 and 9 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Practice will begin Aug. 12 from 3:15 to 5:30 daily. Participants must have proof of insurance and a 2013 physical.

CO-ED SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

BLUEFIELD, Va. — A co-ed softball tournament will take place at the Bluefield (Va.) Little League fields this Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 10-11), sponsored by the Bluefield Blaze 11U boys’ baseball team. Entry fee is $200 per team. VOLLEYBALL TRYOUTS

PRINCETON — A one-day tryout for all girls interested in playing volleyball at Princeton Senior High School will be held on Aug. 12 from 4-7:30 pm in the school gym. CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS

BLUEFIELD — Bluefield Middle School cheerleading camp will take place Monday through Friday, Aug. 5-9, from 9 a.m. to noon. Proof of insurance and a completed physical form are required. For more information, contact the school at 304-325-2481.

GLENWOOD — Glenwood Middle School will be holding a three day clinic on Aug. 12-14 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., for cheer tryouts. Before being allowed to participate, students must turn in a completed physical on an approved WVSSAC form, proof of medical insurance and a copy of state birth certificate, and must have a 2.0 average. FOOTBALL FAN DAY

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia University will host its annual Fan Day on Sunday, Aug. 11, in Caperton Indoor Practice Facility starting at 1 p.m. Gates will open 12:45 p.m. Head coach Dana Holgorsen and WVU players will sign autographs and visit with f ans from 1-3 p.m.

CLUB PICNIC

BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Triangle Sportsmen’s Club annual picnic will be Saturday, Aug, 10, with food being served at 4 p.m. Activities include horseshoes and archery, with 22 competitions are being planned, and door prizes will be awarded. Only the upper range will be available on Aug. 10 to those who choose not to attend the picnic. The food will be catered by the Mayflower Restaurant. ATHENS — Concord University baseball team will host a one-day camp on Aug. 14 from 1-5 p.m. at Anderson Field. Cost is $75. TENNIS CAMP

BLUEFIELD — Bluefield State tennis coach Louie Belt will host a second Big Blue Tennis Camp of the summer on Aug. 5-8 at the Bluefield City Courts. The camp, which is for boys and girls of all ages, will focus on  improving stroke techniques, strategy and match play as well other aspects of the game. HONAKER, Va. — The Honaker High School football team will be hosting its annual golf tournament on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Greenway Golf Course in Glade Spring. PRINCETON — The Princeton Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting new members for the Silverettes Majorette class and dance class. FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

RICHLANDS, Va. — The 2nd Annual Big Blue Bash football tournament will be held on Nov. 9-10 at Ernie Hicks Stadium. Age divisions include 8u, 9u, 10u, 11u, and 12u.  Entry fee will be 175 per team, and $150 for any team after that from the same organization. There is a two-game guarantee, with a good chance for a third and fourth game. KARATE CLASSES

IAEGER — Beginner Karate classes are being taught at Gilbert Shotokan Karate Academy. Classes are for boys and girls, ages 8 and up, and will be held twice each week on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Family rates are available in addition to individual rates.Advanced Karate classes will be taught on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30.
