— BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS

WARDELL, Va. — The SWVA Winter Shootout II will be held on Jan. 12-13 at Southwest Virginia Community College. Divisions include 6th and 7th grade girls and 4th and 5th grade girls and boys. The tournament includes a three-game guarantee and is limited to the first six teams in each division. Entry fee is $125 per team. PILGRIM’S KNOB, Va. — The 17th Annual Bobcat Classic will be held January 19-20 at Twin Valley Elementary-Middle School. Tournament divisions will include 4th/5th & 6th /7th grade, both boys and girls teams. Entry fee is $150 and teams bringing two or more will receive a reduced entry fee. RICHLANDS, Va. — The Richlands Basketball Bash will be held on Jan. 25-27 at Southwest Virginia Community College. The boys and girls tournament will include two divisions for grades 4-5 and 6-7. BRISTOL, Va. — The Bearcat Shootout will be held on Jan. 26-27 at Virginia High School’s Bearcat Den. Boys and girls travel teams, grades 2 through junior varsity are invited to attend. HONAKER, Va. — The 6th annual Clinch Mountain Basketball Classic Tournament will be held on Feb. 1-3 at Honaker High School and Honaker Elementary School. Boys and girls can participate in grades 2-3, 4-5, 6-7 and 8-9. The entry fee is $125, with team and individual awards given to the top two finishers in each division. BASKETBALL CAMP REUNION

ATHENS — The Concord University men’s and women’s basketball programs will host a camp reunion on Jan. 12 when the Mountain Lions host Fairmont State for anyone who attended either teams’ skills camps this past summer. Those who attended the camps will be granted free admission to both the women’s and men’s games as long as they wear the t-shirt each camper received from one of the two clinics. Game time is 2 p.m. for the women, with the men following at 4.

HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS

WELCH—The Welch Lions Club will host a McDowell County Sports Hall of Fame meeting on Sunday, Jan. 6, at the Sterling Drive-in in Welch. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. All screening committee chairmen and committee members are urged to be present. The discussion will center around the 2013 induction ceremonies that will be held on May 5 at Mount View High School.

WELCH — Nominations are now being accepted for the 2013 inductees into the McDowell County Sports Hall of Fame. Twelve former coaches, players and supporters will be inducted in May. Ballots may be acquired from the Welch Lions Club, any of the area chairmen or by printing a form off Facebook from the Mighty Welch Lions Clubs Hall of Fame site. Committee chairmen include Fred Schrom, Leroy Johnson, Jerry Horne, Gary Dove and Troy Hawks. Forms can also be sent to the Welch Lions Club, Box 97, Welch, W.Va. 24801. Any questions should be addressed to any of the area chairmen or a member of the Welch Lions Club. The deadline for ballots to be accepted is Jan. 31, 2013.

ELKS HOOP SHOOT CONTEST

PRINCETON — The 41st annual Elks Hoop Shoot contest in Princeton will take place on Sunday, Jan. 6 at the Princeton Rec Center, conducted locally by Princeton Elks Lodge 1459. Signups start at 2 p.m. with the contest starting at 2:30. The event is free. Boys and girls, 8-13 years old, will compete separately in one of three age groups. Contest winners will be eligible for a regional state competition on Jan. 12 in Huntington.  KARATE CLASSES

IAEGER — Gilbert Shotokan Karate Academy in Iaeger is offering adult karate classes on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-9:30. Youth (7-12) classes are Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p.m. and Monday at 7:30. Kids class (6 and under) is Monday at 5 p.m. Women’s Self-Defense classes are Wednesday at 7:30 to 8:30. MAJORETTE/DANCE CLASSES

PRINCETON — The Princeton Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting new members for the Silverettes Majorette class and dance class. Classes are on Tuesday evenings, with majorettes from 5:30 to 6:30 and dance from 6:30 to 7:30. The first class is free. TENNIS LESSONS

BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Sarver Tennis Club at Sedgewood currently accepts enrollment for the 2012-2013 school term Junior Tennis Program. Also, private lesson appointments are available on a limited basis. Seasonal memberships can be purchased (Sept. 1-May 31) as well. PRINCETON — An adult tennis league is now being held at the Princeton Senior High School courts. Singles are held on Tuesday, with doubles on Thursday.
