BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

BRISTOL, Va. — The 7th Annual Halloween Havoc Hoopfest sponsored by Virginia Future Stars of Sports will be held on Oct. 27-28 in Bristol. RUN/WALKS

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Bluefield College will host its Fifth Annual Jason Elswick Memorial Scholarship Challenge, Saturday, Sept. 15, beginning at the Dome Gymnasium. It benefits a scholarship honoring Elswick, a Bluefield College math education major who died in a car accident. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. in the gym parking lot, and this year’s 5K Run and Walk begins at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $20 before August 31 and $25 after August 31. BLUEFIELD — The annual Brian Delp 5K Memorial Run & 1 Mile Fun Walk will take place at Bluefield State College on Tuesday, Sept. 25, with registration at 4 p.m. and the race start at 6:30 p.m. Money raised will benefit the Humanitarian Athletic Award Scholarship at BSC in memory of the late Brian Delp, BSC student-athlete who lost his life assisting a stranded motorist. ATHENS — The first Phys Ed 5K Run-Walk race to benefit Concord University’s human performance majors is set for Monday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. It will begin and end at Callaghan Stadium on campus and will include streets in Athens. Entry fees and any other donations will provide opportunities for students to attend national and state conventions and participate in training in the field of human performance. Registration fees for Concord University students, faculty and alumni are $8 for early registration, and $10 on the day of the race. All other participants are $12 for early registration, and $15 the day of the race. Early registration ends on Saturday at 6 p.m. Registration and packet pick up begins at 5 p.m. on race day in the Carter Center lobby. PRINCETON — Mercer Elementary School will be hosting its First Annual 5K Run/Walk and a Kids Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 20, with all proceeds going to benefit the school's Bible in the School program. On-site registration will begin at 8 a.m. The 5K race will follow at 9, followed by the Kids Fun Run at 10. The cost is $20 for runners, $15 for walkers and $10 for kid’s run. BECKLEY — Upper Deck Training Center will begin hosting a month-long fall instructional league on Sept. 10. The cost is $110 and will include a showcase with Marshall University head coach Jeff Waggoner, according to former Mount View baseball coach Joe Riffe, who is now working at Upper Deck. VOLLEYBALL

BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Graham volleyball team will host its “Play for a Cure” match with Bluefield on Oct. 15 in what will be a breast cancer awareness event. All fans are urged to wear pink, and a raffle will be held with the proceeds donated to the Virginia High School League’s "Play for a Cure" foundation. A brief ceremony will be held before the JV match at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity game starting around 7:15. The event will honor breast cancer victims, from those who have lost their lives to those who are still alive. IAEGER — Gilbert Shotokan Karate Academy in Iaeger is offering adult karate classes on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-9:30. Youth (7-12) classes are Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p.m. and Monday at 7:30. Kids class (6 and under) is Monday at 5 p.m. Women’s Self-Defense classes are Wednesday at 7:30 to 8:30. BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Sarver Tennis Club at Sedgewood currently accepts enrollment for the 2012-2013 school term Junior Tennis Program. PRINCETON — An adult tennis league is now being held at the Princeton Senior High School courts. Singles are held on Tuesday, with doubles on Thursday.
