RUN/WALKS

BLUEFIELD — The annual Brian Delp 5K Memorial Run & 1 Mile Fun Walk will take place at Bluefield State College on Tuesday, Sept. 25, with registration at 4 p.m. and the race start at 6:30 p.m. Money raised will benefit the Humanitarian Athletic Award Scholarship at BSC in memory of the late Brian Delp, BSC student-athlete who lost his life assisting a stranded motorist. Registration for the 5K run is $15 ($20 after Sept. 18). Registration is $10 for the 1-mile fun run. For information, contact Vonda Wilson at 304-327-4208.

PRINCETON — Mercer Elementary School will be hosting its First Annual 5K Run/Walk and a Kids Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 20, with all proceeds going to benefit the school's Bible in the School program. On-site registration will begin at 8 a.m. The 5K race will follow at 9, followed by the Kids Fun Run at 10. The cost is $20 for runners, $15 for walkers and $10 for kid’s run. BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield Area Little League will be holding registration for the fall season for ages 6-8 and 9-10, with a limit of 10 players per team. BLUEFIELD, Va. — Bluefield Va. Little League Baseball will conduct its election of officers Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Bluefield, Va., Rescue Squad. All are encouraged to attend.

SOCCER LEAGUE

VOLLEYBALL

BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Graham volleyball team will host its “Play for a Cure” match with Bluefield on Oct. 15 in what will be a breast cancer awareness event. All fans are urged to wear pink, and a raffle will be held with the proceeds donated to the Virginia High School League’s "Play for a Cure" foundation. A brief ceremony will be held before the JV match at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity game starting around 7:15. The event will honor breast cancer victims, from those who have lost their lives to those who are still alive. FUNDRAISER

HINTON — A benefit for Lane Houchins, the 6-year-old son of Summers County football coach Josh Houchins, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 23. Lance was diagnosed last year with leukemia. A lunch of  BBQ chicken, baked potato, baked beans, cole slaw, roll, and a drink will be served for $10 an adult and $5 for children at the lawn beside the Memorial Building in Hinton from noon until 4 pm. There will be carriage rides, entertainment, a bake sale, t shirts and bracelets, and a silent auction. Among many other items, a cruise to the Bahamas, Winterplace Ski Resort passes, and ACE rafting trips will be auctioned. If you have any questions, please call Kristin Richmond at 304-575-3031.

IAEGER — Gilbert Shotokan Karate Academy in Iaeger is offering adult karate classes on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-9:30. Youth (7-12) classes are Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p.m. and Monday at 7:30. Kids class (6 and under) is Monday at 5 p.m. Women’s Self-Defense classes are Wednesday at 7:30 to 8:30. SOCCER SHOOT

PRINCETON — The annual Princeton Elks Soccer Shoot will be held Monday, Oct. 1, at the Princeton Rec Center from 7 to 9 p.m. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. The soccer shoot is open to U7–U14 age groups in Mercer, Tazewell and Bland counties.  It will be held indoors, so no cleats are allowed.  There is no cost for participation.  For more information call 304-425-5426.

TENNIS LESSONS

BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Sarver Tennis Club at Sedgewood currently accepts enrollment for the 2012-2013 school term Junior Tennis Program. Also, private lesson appointments are available on a limited basis. Seasonal memberships can be purchased (Sept. 1-May 31) as well. ADULT TENNIS LEAGUE

PRINCETON — An adult tennis league is now being held at the Princeton Senior High School courts. Singles are held on Tuesday, with doubles on Thursday. The co-ed league is open to all ages and playing levels. Loaner racquets are available for newcomers. A 10-and-under league will be developed in the spring. For more information, call 888-775-7075.

YOUTH BASKETBALL / CHEERLEADING

PRINCETON — The Princeton Parks and Recreation Department is having signups for boys basketball ages 9-12, grades 3-6. The fee is $30 until Oct. 21, and $35 for late registration from Oct. 21-31. Signups are also taking place for girls cheerleading ages 4-12, grades 36. The fee is $35 until Oct. 21 and $40 for late registration from Oct. 21-31.

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

BRISTOL, Va. — The 7th Annual Halloween Havoc Hoopfest sponsored by Virginia Future Stars of Sports will be held on Oct. 27-28 in Bristol.
