Florida governor inadvertently releases phone sex number instead of meningitis hotline

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —  Some Florida residents are feeling a little hot and bothered after dialing a “hotline” number given out by Florida Gov. Rick Scott.

NBC Miami reported Scott gave out a phone line for residents to call if they wanted more information about a recent outbreak of deadly fungal meningitis in the state. However, the number Scott gave out was not for the meningitis information line but rather a phone sex hotline.

Reports indicate Scott transposed numbers in the toll-free 866 hotline and people who dialed the informational number soon reported back they were getting information of a much different sort. Residents who dialed the number received the voice recording of a woman, which begins: “Hello boys, thank you for calling me on my anniversary.”

Scott later apologized and released the real number to the public. There are approximately 1,185 patients with fungal meningitis being treated in Marion, Miami-Dade, Orange and Escambia counties in Florida.
