Shepherdstown offering parking meter app

Associated Press

SHEPHERDSTOWN — Motorists looking for spare change to feed parking meters in Shepherdstown can soon have the option of paying through their cell phones.

A mobile app from Parkmobile USA Inc. will be available for starting Monday for meter users in Shepherdstown. The Journal reports it’s the company’s first venture in West Virginia.

The app allows users to pay for their parking spaces electronically, receive text alerts and reminders before their meter time expires.

App users must register their vehicles and credit card information to use the service. A toll-free telephone number also is available for people without smartphones.

Shepherdstown Police Chief David Ransom says users can either type in the number on a sticker at each meter or scan a bar code before buying parking time.
