PRINCETON — •  Anthony Gene Baker, 36, of Princeton died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011 in Bastian, Va. Rodriguez Funeral Home of Pocahontas, Va., was in charge of arrangements.

•  Christian Luther Billings, 43, of Princeton, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2011 at Princeton Community Hospital. Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home of Princeton was in charge of arrangements.

•  Shirley Irene Cox, 56, of Princeton, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home of Princeton was in charge of arrangements.

•  Neva Okes Thorn, 88, of the Manor in Niles, Ohio died Monday, Oct. 10, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Memorial Funeral Directory, Athens Road, Princeton was in charge of arrangements.

Ann H. “Dink” Stafford

PRINCETON — Ann H. “Dink” Stafford, 79, of Hunnicutt Lane, Princeton, died early Friday morning, October 14, 2011 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born December 11, 1931, in Norton, Va., she was the daughter of the late H. P. Hunnicutt and Anne Simkins Hunnicutt. Dink moved to Princeton from Norton, Va. in 1936.  She was a graduate of Princeton High School, Class of 1949. Following high school, Dink attended Ward-Belmont Women's College in Nashville, Tenn. In 1953 she earned a Marketing/Retail Management degree from West Virginia University and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She then moved back to Princeton where she received her teaching certificate from Concord College in Athens. Dink taught school in Tazewell County for a short period of time and worked in the family business, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Princeton. Dink was devoted to her family, church and our community. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Princeton,  serving on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Scholarship Committee, Finance Committee, Bereavement Committee, Church Trustee, Church Council, Prayer Chairman, Telephone coordinator, and various other committees within the life of the church. Her passion and presence was well noted by her commitment to the Board of Directors of the Princeton Public Library, having served for more than 24 years, as well as its chairperson for 20 years. Her tenacity will long be remembered regarding her unselfish commitment and drive to establish the new Princeton Library. Dink was also active and served on the Board of Directors, of Bible in the Schools for Mercer County. Dink was also active on both the county and state Republican Executive Committees. Dink was honored by the Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce in 2009 as the Citizen of the Year and was inducted into the Princeton Senior High School Hall of Fame.

While her health permitted, Dink enjoyed working in her yard and garden and on the family farm. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Luke Stafford; a grandson, Jake Stafford; and her only sibling, Jodi Sarver. In 1962 Dink married William Perry “Bill” Stafford of Princeton creating a union of 49 years. In addition to her husband, Dink was blessed to have two devoted sons and their wives, Will and Pam Stafford and Joe and Stephanie Stafford; and four grandchildren whom she loved and adored, Sarah, Abbey, Emily and Perry.  

A service to celebrate the life of Ann “Dink” Stafford was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Princeton with Pastor Randy Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery on the Pisgah Road near Princeton. Friends visited with the family on Sunday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton. Memorial gifts of love may be made to the Princeton Public Library, 920 Mercer Street, Princeton WV 24740. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Long, Bob Schumacher, Buddy Tolley, Nathan Waddell, Jack Fredeking, Buddy Kinser, Tom Spangler and John Hickman along with three honorary pallbearers, Clarence Edwards, Dr. Norman Jones and Peg Tolley.
