Planet Xtreme Teen Center gears up to hit the links

PRINCETON — Planet Xtreme Teen Center needs golfers to play a round to keep kids off the streets.
The Princeton teen center, built around a mission to provide youth a safe place to go after school, is currently recruiting teams for its fourth annual golf classic, and Director Tim Smith said the competition spots were going fast this week. Tournament organizers aim for 25 teams, and Smith expects a full course when the contest tees off at 8 a.m. July 25.
“It will really fill up quick toward the end of the registration, so if there are golfers that want to play, they should register soon,” Smith said.
Set at Fountain Springs Golf Club near Peterstown, the tournament will feature a $500 cash prize to the first-place team, trophies for the three teams that finish on top and a chance at a GMC vehicle sponsored by Ramey Motors. The auto will be up for grabs in the event one lucky golfer hits a hole in one on Hole No. 2.
There are also some tasty treats in store. Smith said Starbucks will sponsor a complimentary breakfast for competitors, and Outback Steakhouse will serve lunch at the end of the tournament. Servers will include teens active at the center.
Team registration fees for the annual golf classic are $200, which includes cart and green fees for four players at the Monroe County course. In addition, bonus packs including a Mulligan and red tee box will be available for purchase for $10. Bonus packs are limited to one set per nine holes.
Registration deadline for the tourney is July 18, and Smith encouraged anyone interested to be a part of the event that will help fund safe, positive after-school activities at the Thorn Street center.
“The golfers always have a lot of fun on the course, and there’s a lot of camaraderie during the tournament and afterward, too,” he said.
For individuals or businesses who would like to help with the tournament but don’t care to field a team, there are still sponsorship options available.
