April 28

• PETIT LARCENY, CONSPIRACY, TRESPASSING: Det. D.W. Sparks Jr. arrested Linda Shepherd, 32, of Princeton, on the charges of petit larceny, two counts of conspiracy and two counts of trespassing.

• GRAND LARCENY, CONSPIRACY, TRESPASSING: Det. D.W. Sparks Jr. arrested Kenny Shepherd, 33, of Princeton, on the charges of grand larceny, six counts of conspiracy and six counts of trespassing.

May 1

• BREAKING AND ENTERING: Det. D.A. Furches investigated a breaking and entering on a construction site off Industrial Park Road. The complainant said the he and the employees left in the evening and returned the next morning to find two site trailers were broken into. A side door was pried open to gain access, and the suspect(s) took several items. A shoe print that didn’t match any of the employees was found. Two three-foot stepladders, a scaffold ladder, and a sledgehammer were among the items taken.

• FUGITIVE/CAPIAS: Dep. J.D. Ellison arrested Jerry Wayne Combs, 31, of Rock, on a capias warrant. Ellison later found Combs was wanted out of Gwinnett County, Ga., on a warrant for felony possession of cocaine.

• TRUANCY: Dep. R.E. Haynes Jr. arrested Sharon Lilly, 38, of Princeton on a warrant for truancy.

• PETIT LARCENY: Dep. J.R. Coburn investigated a petit larceny at a residence on Blue Prince Road. The complainant said a friend was over and asked to borrow some money. The complainant told the friend that she didn’t have any. When the friend left, the complainant found her wallet was missing. A neighbor advised the subject left with a wallet stuffed in her pants. There will be a follow-up.

May 2

• DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: Dep. R.M. Combs investigated damage done to a tractor located off Falls Mills Road. The door lock and ignition switch were damaged. There are no suspects.

• TRESSPASS: Dep. R.E. Haynes Jr., investigated a trespassing case on Oxley Hollow Road. The complainant said the accused came to a residence making threats, cursing and refusing to leave. The accused said he wouldn’t leave until he was ready.

• CAPIAS: Dep. R.E. Haynes Jr. arrested April Lee Cecil, 29, of Princeton, on a capias warrant.

• DISORDERLY CONDUCT, OBSTRUCTING: Dep. C.E. Parsons responded to a dispute at Glenwood Public Park between the accused and a DHHR employee. The employee was attempting to remove children due to a violation. The accused was told to stop using profanity due to other children and families in the park. The accused was told to leave. She moved toward her vehicle, but continued to shout obscenities near children and families. Amanda D. Conley, 24, of Bluefield, on the charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing.

• DOMESTIC BATTERY, DOMESTIC ASSAULT: Dep. W.E. Rose arrested Fredrick Kanode, 31, of Princeton on warrants for domestic assault and domestic battery.

May 3

• DUI: Dep. A.M. Ballard received a report of a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lane of U.S. Route 52. He followed a vehicle traveling north at 11 miles per hour in a 55 mph speed zone. The vehicle went off the road and crossed the center line. He initiated a traffic stop and observed the odor of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath. The driver was told to recite the alphabet, but made it to F and could not count to 20 when asked to do so. Gary Donald Scott, 57, of Bluefield, was arrested on the charge of driving under the influence.

• DUI: Cpl. S.A. Sommers observed a vehicle weaving that was traveling east on U.S. Route 460. He initiated a traffic stop on Shelter Road. The driver got out of the vehicle and had difficult standing, swaying from side to side. Sommers smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath who refused a field sobriety test. Cornelious W. Steward, 53, of Bluefield, was arrested on the charge of driving under the influence.

• TRUANCY: Dep. E.P. Parks arrested Kevin Swain Averill, 39, of Princeton, on two warrants for truancy.

May 4

• DUI: Dep. A.M. Ballard observed a vehicle turn without giving a signal and that had a left brake light out. He initiated a traffic stop on East Wayne Street. The driver consented to a field sobriety test, which he failed. Robert E. Pritt Sr., 65, of Bluefield, was arrested on the charge of driving under the influence.

• PUBLIC INTOXICATION, OBSTRUCTION: Dep. A.M. Ballard found a subject walking in the road on Cumberland Road. The subject advised he was attempting to get to Beckley. Ballard told the subject to call for a ride. The subject said he had no money and refused to call collect. He was told not to walk in the road or he would be arrested. Two hours later 911 advised a subject was walking in the road on U.S. Route 460. William Glen Toler, 24, of Kopperston, was arrested on the charges of public intoxication and obstruction.

• DAYTIME BURGLARY, PETIT LARCENY: Dep. J.R. Coburn investigated a burglary at a residence off Route 20. The complainant said a male claiming to be a Southern Highlands employee came to her residence and said he needed to check the water and make sure the residence was safe for a walk-through. The complainant let the suspect in the home and later found her purse was missing. There are no suspects at this time.

May 5

• PETIT LARCENY: Sgt. G.W. Woods investigated a larceny at White Oak Valley MHP. The complainant said she stopped by to see the baby of a friend. She saw a young boy near her vehicle and later found her wallet missing. The subject left before the complainant discovered the theft. The suspect wasn’t located.

• FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE: Cpl. S.A. Sommers arrested Nathan Shawn Mitchell, 25, of Roanoke, Va., on a fugitive from justice warrant.

• DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: Dep. G.C. Paitsel investigated a complaint at the Days Inn in Princeton. The complainant said he and his wife checked in and later found someone broke the driver’s side window on his vehicle. No items were taken. An estimated $150 was done in damage.

• WORTHLESS CHECK: Dep. G.C. Paitsel arrested Shelia Miles, 50, of Princeton, on a worthless check warrant.

• TRUANCY: Sgt. G.W. Woods arrested Donna Wimmer, 31, of Bluefield, on a truancy warrant.

• BREAKING AND ENTERING (AUTO): Dep. Capt. M.L. Gills responded to Lowe’s to a breaking and entering complaint. The complainant said he left his vehicle unlocked and later found a nail gun and a checkbook were taken from the vehicle while he was in the store. A check was later cashed at Gino’s in Athens. The suspect was driving a blue truck.

• EMBEZZLEMENT: Sgt. G.W. Woods investigated when a complainant said an employee at his insurance agency was found to be using customers’ credit cards improperly. The employee allegedly took money given by customers for insurance payments. The employee was given the choice to resign or be fired. Other customers said their accounts had not been credited with payment. The detective bureau was contacted about the case.

May 6

• DUI: Cpl. S.A. Sommers observed a vehicle cross the center line and stopped the vehicle on Old Bluefield and Princeton Road. The subject’s vehicle had a flat tire and a busted side wall. The subject was asked if he had been drinking and said yes. He refused to take a sobriety test. Timothy Scott Stewart, 34, of Princeton, was arrested on the charge of first-offense driving under the influence.

• BURGLARY: Dep. J.D. Ellison investigated a burglary at a residence on Strock Lane. The complainant said someone entered the residence and took several items. Entrance appeared to be made through the rear door. The door wouldn’t shut and lock now and previously there was no sign of force. The complainant said several neighbors had problems with one neighbor. A little girl saw the neighbor exit the residence. There will be a follow-up on the case.

• WORTHLESS CHECKS: Dep. G.C. Paitsel arrested Michael A. Seal, 45, of Princeton, on two worthless check warrants.

DOMESTIC BATTERY: Dep. J.D. Ellison arrested Gilbert Hagerman, 32, of Rock, on a domestic battery warrant after he turned himself in.
