PRINCETON POLICE

April 18

• BATTERY: Capt. P.V. Powell responded to Blue Flash on New Hope Road, where a complainant reported a subject who didn't have enough money to pay a utility bill became angry and threw a roll of quarters at her. The subject reportedly left in a white Subaru.

• PETIT LARCENY: A man reported his wallet must have fallen out of his pocket while he was in a store recently. He told Ptlm. M. B. Gergely an employee of Allen's Supermarket saw a woman pick the wallet up. While he was at the office, however, the officer reported the complainant, Roger Allen Bennett, 23, of Princeton, was wanted on a failure to appear warrant. He was processed and arraigned.

• PETIT LARCENY: Ptlm. J.D. Halsey responded to a report at Little General on Stafford Drive that a white male with gray hair pumped $40.02 in gas and fled without paying for the $40. Halsey investigated and searched the area, but he was unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

• GRAND LARCENY: Ptlm. J.D. Halsey investigated a reported burglary on Center Street. The complainant reported a 50-inch plasma TV. The officer observed a window open but reported no sign of forced entry.

April 19

• GRAND LARCENY: Ptlm. J. S. Bish responded to Mercer Street, where a complainant reported someone stole her blue and white Ford F150. She told the officer her vehicle was last seen in front of her residence on South Eighth Street. The vehicle reportedly did not require a key to start and had been left unlocked. The vehicle was located in Summers County and towed to a lot.

• DUI: Ptlm. W.M. Bradley reported a motorist flagged him down during a patrol of Stafford Drive. The complainant reported a man had harassed him and appeared to be intoxicated at a local convenience store. Bradley located the suspect as he pulled out of the convenience store lot and initiated a traffic stop after allegedly seeing the suspect fail to use a signal at the intersection of Bee Street and Princeton Avenue. Bradley reported seeing three empty bottles of Parrot Bay beverages inside the vehicle and smelling alcohol. The officer administered three field sobriety tests, and Larry Helmandollar, 50, of Kegley, allegedly failed the screenings. He was charged with DUI.

• POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE: Sgt. W.A. Peery, Princeton Fire Department Chief Shawn Vest, Lt. Sean Wyatt and PPD Det. T.A. Gray responded to a person reported inside a condemned structure. Officers and firefighters located the subject in a bathroom with a syringe in her hand. The syringe was allegedly “loaded,” as the subject prepared to “shoot up.” Betty Sullivan, 21, of Bluefield, was arrested and charged. The syringe allegedly contained Dilaudid.

• BATTERY: Ptlm. M.B. Gergely responded to Princeton Community Hospital ER, where a complainant reported a battery that was reported near Grant's Supermarket. The complainant reported he was driving down the road when he saw six or seven juveniles walking down the street. One of the juveniles allegedly threw a plastic bag and struck him in the left arm, cutting him.

April 20

• DUI: Ptlm. J.D. Halsey initiated a traffic stop after allegedly seeing a green Toyota Four-Runner traveling on Mercer Street with a brake light out and failing to stop at a stop sign on East Main Street. The vehicle failed to stop initially, but it did stop on Feller Street. The driver, Norman Vaughan, 34, of Princeton, allegedly told the officer he had been drinking and registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.145, over the legal limit. He was charged.

• SIMPLE POSSESSION: Ptlm. J.D. Halsey reported seeing a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup traveling west on Thorn Street without functional tag lights. The officer executed a traffic stop and reported smelling marijuana. During a pat-down search, Halsey reported finding a bag of what appeared to be marijuana in the suspect's shoe. Brett Hodock, 18, of Pocahontas, Va., was cited for simple possession.

• PETIT LARCENY: Det. T.A. Gray, Sgt. W.A. Peery and Ptlm. J.D. Lambert responded to Reynolds Avenue, where a complainant reported his mother's jewelry and assorted items had been stolen from the residence.

• SHOPLIFTING: Ptlm. J.D. Halsey responded to a shoplifting complaint at Grant's on East Main Street. An employee reported three juveniles placed store merchandise in their pockets, allegedly planning to shoplift them. They allegedly concealed three Butterfinger candy bars, six cans of Wacky String, and a pack of Juicy Fruit gum. The juveniles were cited and released.

April 21

• DUI, SIMPLE POSSESSION: Ptlm. J.D. Halsey reported pulling a white Plymouth Breeze over after seeing it traveling Stafford Drive without a functioning left brake light. The driver allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana 45 minutes earlier, and the officer reported finding a bag of marijuana inside a passenger's shoe. Sabrina Long, 22, of Princeton, and Nicholas House, 20, of Princeton, were charged with DUI and simple possession, respectively.
