April 4

SIMPLE POSSESSION: Det. T.A. Bailey and Ptlm. D.B. Whited reported seeing a gold Chevrolet S-10 traveling on Mercer Street with an expired inspection sticker. Officers initiated a traffic stop and issued the driver, Larry William Bailey, 49, of Princeton, a citation for the expired registration. Upon receiving consent to search the vehicle, officers reported finding two crack pipes in the door and under the seat. Both pipes allegedly had residue inside them. Bailey and Timmy Ray Pierce, 53, of Princeton, were both arrested on charges of simple possession.

• SIMPLE POSSESSION: Ptlm. J.D. Halsey reported seeing a red Pontiac Grand Am traveling in the wrong direction on Alvis Street. When the officer spoke with the driver to advise him he was traveling in the wrong direction, Halsey reported smelling marijuana in the vehicle. During a search of the car, Halsey allegedly found part of a marijuana cigarette inside the ash tray. Jeremy Lewis, 26, of Adrian, Mich., was cited for simple possession and released.

• BREACH OF PEACE: Ptlm. M.B. Gergely responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at the intersection of Princeton Avenue and Seventh Street. The officer reported the couple was involved in a verbal altercation when she arrived, and Gergely reported hearing Shawn Kanode, 22, of Princeton, yell at the woman and tell her he would kill himself. Kanode was arrested on a charge of breach of peace and for his own safety.

• BREACH OF PEACE: Ptlm. W.M. Bradley and Ptlm. E.T. Pugh reported seeing a suspect staggering toward their cruiser on Mercer Street, weaving from the sidewalk to the middle of the street. Upon approaching the woman, Pugh reported she was noticeably under the influence of some controlled substance. She allegedly told officers she had taken Xanax and Lortab and had been involved in an altercation with another female earlier in the evening. She told officers she had nowhere to go for the night. Officers transported Afton Bailey, 23, of Narrows, Va., to the PPD, where they attempted to locate a friend or family member to transport her home. After several unsuccessful attempts, she was placed under arrest for breach of peace.

• DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: Ptlm. J.D. Lambert responded to a destruction of property report on Kirby Avenue. The complainant reported he heard a loud thump and noticed an arrow had partially pierced the screen door of his residence.

• SHOPLIFTING: Ptlm. J.D. Lambert investigated a report of a shoplifter at Grant's in Princeton. The suspect, Elizabeth Yost, 38, of Princeton, allegedly had a box of Alka Seltzer in her jacket pocket when she was confronted by a Grant's employee. She was cited for first-offense shoplifting.

• DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: A complainant at Gateway Motel reported someone broke the window of a bathroom in one of the units. Ptlm. J.D. Halsey investigated and located the broken window, but no suspects were identified.

• OBSTRUCTING A POLICE OFFICER, BATTERY: Ptlm. M.B. Gergely and Ptlm. D.B. Whited responded to South Ninth Street, where a male was covered in blood and reporting he had been assaulted by several males in ski masks in the east end of Princeton. However, officers reported the complainant matched the description of a subject involved in an altercation in the First Community Bank parking lot. The complainant reported he was not involved in that dispute, before allegedly confirming he had been in the fight. Shawn Blankenship, 19, of Lynchburg, Va., was arrested for obstructing an investigation. Both Blankenship and the other person reportedly involved in the altercation declined to pursue charges.

• DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: Ptlm. J.S. Bish reported finding a broken window in the 900 block of Mercer Street. Bish and Sgt. W.J. Gilley walked through the building to ensure it was secure and did not locate anyone inside the structure. They attempted to locate the building owner but were unsuccessful at that time.

• NO OPERATOR'S, POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE: Ptlm. J.D. Lambert and Det. T.A. Gray stopped a black Ford Explorer in the Princeton Community Hospital parking lot, after allegedly seeing the driver to be operating the vehicle without a valid license. Upon their approach, the officers reported smelling marijuana inside the vehicle. The driver, Kristin Shorter, 19, of Bluefield, reported her boyfriend may have been smoking inside the car. A search of her possessions allegedly revealed to Xanax inside her purse. She was issued a citation for operating a vehicle with no license and possession of a controlled substance.
