April 3

• WORTHLESS CHECK: Dep. J.D. Ellison arrested Nelson Gross, 35, of Princeton, on a worthless check warrant.

• WORTHLESS CHECK: Dep. J.D. Ellison arrested Francis Marie Adams, 42, of Princeton, on a worthless check warrant.

• FAILURE TO APPEAR: Dep. R.D. Utt arrested Jeremy Romeo, 22, of Princeton, on a failure to appear warrant. Romeo was transported from the Tazewell County Jail to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department where he was arrested.

April 4

• BREAKING AND ENTERING: Dep. J.D. Ellison investigated a breaking and entering on Cornbread Ridge Road. The complainant advised that someone forced their way into a garage. Nothing was taken. Damage was done to the front door of the garage and the rear door of the residence. There are no suspects at this time.

• HIT AND RUN: Dep. J.D. Ellison investigated a hit and run incident at S and S Convenience Store. The complainant said she went into the store and noticed a white vehicle parked beside of her vehicle. Upon returning from the store, she found a dent in the front fender. The unknown vehicle was gone.

• OBSTRUCTING, CAPIAS, FAILURE TO APPEAR: Cpl. Det. L.B. Murphy and Det. D.W. Sparks Jr. were at Mercer Mall. Murphy saw a subject near the exit at Macado’s. The subject attempted to shake Murphy’s hand who told him that he didn’t show up for court the day before and was under arrest. The subject struggled with both offices and refused to place his hands behind his back. Shawn Smith, 21, of Bluefield, was arrested on capias, failure to appear, and two counts of obstructing.

April 5

• BATTERY: Dep. E.P. Parks responded to a report of an altercation at Kamikaze Sports Bar. The complainant said he was jumped by two males, one who left in a Grand Am prior to the officer’s arrival. He said the other was standing by the front. The subject standing at the front said males in a Grand Am did jump the complainant. The subject said he wasn’t involved in the incident and that was he was friends with the complainant. He said he didn’t know why the complainant was reporting that he was involved.

• DOMESTIC BATTERY: Dep. J.R. Coburn responded to a domestic on Old Athens Road. The complainant said she tried to leave her residence, but her boyfriend hit her in the back of the head. The male subject said the complainant hit him first. He said the couple fights all the time and hit each other every time. Troy D. Winn, 19, of Princeton, and Heather Lawrence, 20, of Princeton, were arrested on the charge of domestic battery.

• OBTAINING BY FALSE PRETENSES; GRAND LARCENY: Dep. A.M. Ballard investigated when a complainant said his horse got out. An animal control officer recovered the horse and gave it to a suspect to keep until the owner could be located. A subject contacted the animal control officer and said the horse was his. The animal control officer, acting in good faith, advised the subject holding the horse to turn it over to the subject claiming it. The complainant then brought registration, photos of the horse. The officer attempted to contact the subject who claimed the horse, but the subject wasn’t at home. The horse is valued at $2,500. More statements are needed before further investigation.

April 6

• PETIT LARCENY: Dep. E.P. Parks investigated a call at Cheer’s Lounge. The complainant said he met the suspect for a drink and she asked him to buy her and her friend a drink. The complainant gave the suspect a $50 bill. The suspect then walked toward the bar and then ran outside. The suspect didn’t return the complainant’s money. He said he’s attempted to contact her multiple times.

• BURGLARY, PETIT LARCENY: A deputy investigated burglary call on Simmons River Road. The complainant said her family was in the process of moving and left their residence unattended. Her son discovered a basement window broken and the basement light on. Several items, including a DVD player and Sony PlayStation II were taken. There are no suspects at this time.

• DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: Cpl. S.A. Sommers investigated a destruction of property call on L-Jay Street. The complainant said that while he was sleeping, someone hit his fence, causing the pole and concrete to come out. When the pole came out, a portion of the fence fell on his truck. There was no visible damage to the truck. There are no suspects at this time.

April 7

• WORTHLESS CHECK: Sgt. G.W. Woods arrested Stella Ombler, 36, of Princeton, on a worthless check warrant.

April 8

• WORTHLESS CHECK: Dep. J.D. Ellison arrested Nathanial Nelson, 39, of Bluefield, on a worthless check warrant.

• BREAKING AND ENTERING: Sgt. S.J. Cary responded to a report of a breaking and entering at the Montcalm Grocery. A suspect forced his way in a wooden door before breaking a Plexiglas window. 30 packs of cigarettes, valued at $100, were taken, along with 30 lighters, valued at $30. Officers searched the area for a suspect, but were unable to locate him.

• DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: Dep. E.P. Parks investigated a destruction of property call on Old Athens Road. The complainant said someone squirted lotion on the front door knob of his apartment. He said he’s had problems with some new neighbors. They denied involvement. Charges are pending upon discovery of a suspect.

April 9

• MALICIOUS WOUNDING: Sgt. S.J. Cary responded to Sweet Dreams to an altercation call at the bar. The complainant was bleeding from lacerations to the head. He said he was hit two or three times with a beer bottle. He advised after getting hit with the beer bottle that the suspect hit him with his fists before fleeing the scene. A witness advised the suspect was her ex-boyfriend and she is currently dating the complainant. The suspect returned and advised officers that he was the one who hit the complainant. It was found the suspect was wanted out of Tazewell County for trespassing and felony abduction charges. He will be extradited. Christopher Bigelow, 27, of Bluefield, was arrested on the charge of malicious wounding.
