George William “Bill” Linkenhoker Jr.

PRINCETON — George William “Bill” Linkenhoker Jr., 85, of GlenWood Park Retirement Village and formally of North Walker Street, Princeton, W.Va., died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012 at GlenWood Park Retirement Village. Born April 30, 1927 in Princeton, W.Va., he was the son of the late George William Linkenhoker Sr. and Freda Virginia Bailey Kitts. Bill was retired from Columbia Gas of West Virginia with 35 years of service. He retired as a specialist in Gas Air Conditioning and Gas appliances.  

Bill served in the United States Navy during World War II and then returned to graduate from Princeton High School in 1947. He played basketball for Princeton High School and was recognized as a member of the All-State Team when his team went to the State Tournament. He began work with the Gas Company following graduation. He loved to hunt and fish. He developed a love of archery and enjoyed bow hunting as well as tournament archery. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, and also a member of the B.P.O. Elks 1459.

Prior to his illness, Bill was an active member of First United Methodist Church having served on various committees and the Church Council. He also served as an Usher Captain for 12 years.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Patty Lilly Linkenhoker, and a half-brother Richard Linkenhoker.  

Survivors include one daughter, Ruth Linkenhoker Boyles of Princeton; one brother, Edwin “Bud” Linkenhoker and his wife, Glenna, of Princeton; and one half-sister, Loretta Linkenhoker Newkirk and her husband, Curtis, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one nephew, Mark Linkenhoker of Princeton; and one niece, Cheryl Linkenhoker Bender of Aledo, Texas. Others that he considered as a part of his immediate family include Bridgette Pendleton of Princeton, whom he treated as a second daughter; Ed Pendleton and his wife, Belinda of Columbus, Ind., whom he treated as a son and daughter-in-law; and Michelle Pendleton Gilbert, whom he thought of as his granddaughter and her husband, Clark, also of Columbus, Ind.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at the Athens Cemetery in Athens with the Rev. Scott Sears officiating. Friends may call at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Those attending the service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Brian Struble, Jim Burks, Tony Veneri, Larry Cook, Will Stafford, and David Graham.
