NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. —
James Curtis “Jim” Browning, age 70, of the Mudfork community in North Tazewell, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem, Va. Born June 17, 1942 in Tazewell County, Va., he was a son of the late Charlie Jesse Browning and Macie Evelyn Bowman Browning.
Mr. Browning was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dexter Ruth Browning; two sisters, Lois Holbrook and Cora Browning; one brother, Charles Browning and special friend, Jean Walkup.
He is survived by one stepdaughter, Pam Hess of Texas; two stepsons, Tom Prowse of Columbus, Ohio and Jerry Jarvis and wife, Dana of Cedar Bluff, Va.; one brother, Jesse Browning and wife, Lorraine of North Tazewell, Va.; brother-in-law, Gerald Holbrook of Tip Top, Va.; special friend, Karen Johnson of Claypool Hill, Va.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with Johnny Elmore officiating. Burial will follow at the Browning Family Cemetery at Mudfork, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
