CORTEZ, Fla. —
Ronald Spurgeon Grogan, 75, of Cortez, Fla. and Hiawassee, Ga., died January 28, 2013. Born in Lashmeet, West Virginia, to the late Riley “Spud” Spurgeon Grogan and Oma Hurst Grogan, he moved to Bradenton/Cortez in 1998 from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
A veteran of the U.S. Army during Vietnam, he was a member of Palma Sola Bay Baptist Church in Bradenton and attended Hiawassee United Methodist Church when in Hiawassee. He was a manager at VA Hospitals across the country, a Mason, a member of the American Legion, Kentucky Colonels, and he was the grandson of Rufus Spurgeon Grogan, an Evangelist.
Survived by wife of 27 years, Marsha of Cortez, Fla. and Hiawassee, Ga.; daughters, Rhonda (Clay) Wagenlander of Ft. Thomas, Ky. and Michele (Todd) Bartels of Roanoke, Texas; brother, Jerry (Rose Nell) Grogan of Princeton, W.Va.; sister, Joyce Coldiron of Columbus, Ohio; brother-in-law, Dennis (Donna) Simerly of Cuba, Ill.; grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Rachael, Tyler, Sean, and Josh.
Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. with Masonic Service at 10:00 a.m. and Services to follow at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory, 26th Street Chapel, 5624 26th Street West, Bradenton, FL 34207. Burial with Military Honors will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2013 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
