Everett Randolph “Randy” Jeffries

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Everett Randolph “Randy” Jeffries, 61, of 1420 Vera Court in Wilmington, N.C., a former resident of Clarksburg, W.Va. and Princeton, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 in Wilmington. Born March 12, 1951 in Montgomery, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clyde Jeffries and Jessie Spence Jeffries.

He was a 1969 graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School in Clarksburg, W.Va. excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. He attended Glenville State College on a football scholarship and was a successful starting quarterback from 1969-1972. He then left college and worked prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1974 where he served with the Green Beret Special Forces until 1978. He returned to college to complete his Degree in Education and began his teaching and coaching career in Mercer County Schools. In 1984 he moved to Clayton, N.C. where he continued his career before returning to Monroe and Mercer County in 1989. He retired in 2000 after being diagnosed with throat cancer. He was an accomplished woodsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and the solitude of the woods.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Cyrus Jeffries; and one sister, Sandra Poley.

Survivors include one son, Justin Jeffries and wife Jessie of Wilmington, N.C. with whom he made his home; one daughter, Jessie Perry and husband Brooks also of Wilmington, N.C.; three grandchildren, Evvy Grayce Jeffries, Tess Perry, and Cooper Perry; two brothers, Echols “Phil” Jeffries and wife Nell of Athens, and Russell Jeffries and wife Pat of Lanexa, Va.; one sister, Anna Sue Lanphear and husband Wallace of Orlando, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Randy's wishes his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mercer County Humane Society, 961 Shelter Rd., Princeton, WV 24740.
