BOISSEVAIN, Va. —
Wallace L. Parton, 86, of Box 55, Boissevain, VA 24606 (Abb's Valley, VA), passed away on January 5, 2013 at Westwood Center in Bluefield, Va.
Mr. Parton was born in Boissevain, Va. on May 27, 1926 to the late Robert Lee Parton and Willie Hardy Parton Miller. His lifelong home was made in Boissevain and Abb's Valley, Va. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from UMWA having worked at Boissevain, Jenkinjones and Gary #9 with 37 years of service. He was also of the Protestant faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert Parton; stepfather, J. Ernest Miller; one infant brother; and two sisters, Sylvia P Harless Moore and Iva Parton Doughty.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Iris Jackson Parton; granddaughter, Candie Faye Parton; one grandson, Luke Zaine Parton; one brother, Billy Miller of Tazewell, Va.; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Rodriguez Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Va. with the Rev. Reginald Blakewood officiating. Friends may call at 12:30 p.m., one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow immediately at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va.
Pallbearers will be Buck Rutledge, William Sherman, Keith Weeks, Kevin Weeks, Mark Farmer, Carl W. Harless, Norman Eades and Kerry Weeks. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Jackson, Marvin Barbour and Donald Lambert.
The Rodriguez Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Va. is serving the Parton family.
