Rev. Kenneth Wade “Ken” Hilling

PRINCETON — Rev. Kenneth Wade “Ken” Hilling, 82, of 208 Park Avenue in Princeton, died Friday, December 28, 2012 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born February 11, 1930 in Morgantown, W.Va., he was the son of the late George Robert Hilling and Clara Dell Brewer Hilling.

Ken was the founder and remains a member of the Free Methodist Church in Princeton. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving in the Korean War. He had been a resident of Princeton since 1963 moving here from Harper, W.Va. to build the Free Methodist Church. He was also active in Men's Interdenominational Bible Class and the Tender Mercies Food Pantry in Princeton.

Ken started his newspaper career in 1965 with the Sunset News Observer reporting the city news. After the Sunset News closed he continued his journalism career at the Bluefield Daily Telegraph in the sports department and reporting city news. He went on to work for the Welch Daily News as Sports Editor for nine years and Managing Editor for six years. He then worked at the Tazewell Free Press as Managing Editor for 1  1/2 years. Moving to Teays Valley he worked as Church Planner for three years before returning to Princeton. Ken loved God, his family, his church family, and being around young people and sports.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Elwood Hilling; and two sisters, Lorraine Brafford and Maxine Palmer.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Helen Aileen Huffman Hilling of Princeton; one daughter, Carol Sue Lindamood and husband Rev. Rick Lindamood of Wytheville, Va.; two sons, Howard Wade “Arch” Hilling and wife Lisa and Kenneth James “Jim” Hilling and wife Paula all of Princeton; six grandchildren, Tracy Farmer Whitt and husband Matthew and children, Triston, Jacqueline and Catharine; Kella Ann Watts and husband Adam and children Brandon and Lily; Joshua Richard Lindamood; Heath Hilling; Jermy Hilling and wife Shannon and their children, Eli and Grayson and Jason Hilling and wife Tonya; one sister, Norma Hilling Wolfe and husband Frank of Morgantown, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Gale and Anna Lee Bolton of Princeton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 31, 2012 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Ken Clay, the Rev. Carl Sellards, and the Rev. Rick Lindamood officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 30, 2012.
