PRINCETON — Alice Jeanne Akers Rhinehart, 78, formerly of Bluefield, passed away at Princeton Community Hospital on Dec. 25, 2012. Born Dec. 23,1934 in Welch, she was the daughter of the late Raymon H. Akers Sr. and late Alice Jeanne Porter Akers.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Frankie E. Rhinehart Sr.; a brother, Raymon H. Akers Jr.; and two sisters, Wanda Martin and Doris Jones.

Survivors include sister, Glenna Mathena of Waverly, Ohio; daughter, Kimberly Sigmon (C. Richard) with whom she made her home after the death of her husband Frank this past October; two sons, Frank E. Rhinehart Jr. (Diana) and David Rhinehart (Eb); five grandchildren, Chrissy Claypool (Steve), Aja Rhinehart, Maria Jones (Mike), Adam Rhinehart (Tiffany) and Aaron Sigmon; and six great-grandchildren.

She graduated in the first nursing class at Bluefield State College in 1969 and was a nursing supervisor at Bluefield Community Hospital from where she retired. She was also previously employed at St. Lukes Hospital and was a substitute clinical instructor at the Mercer County Education Center for the Licensed Practical Nursing program. She took much pride and love in her nursing career. She volunteered and aided in the Buffalo Creek Flood disaster in 1972 and was deeply affected by the experience which led her to strive to help people in many ways in the following years. When her sons were young, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother who loved working with her scouts and even years later spoke proudly of all the activities and experiences with her scouts. She was a member of Maple View Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday Dec. 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Tony Reed officiating. The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service hour. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where Adam Rhinehart, Denver Akers, Shannon Akers, Steve Claypool, Robert Jennings and Phillip Sigmon will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Sigmon.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1601 Second Avenue, Charleston, WV 25387.
