PRINCETON — Born May the 21st 1946, at Dunns, he was the son of the late Arthur Carlyle Ellison and Eva Alice Moye Ellison.

Roy was educated in Mercer County, and was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict serving with United States Air Force where he attained the rank of Staff Sgt.

For many years Roy was a machinist, worked in logging and was a sawmill operator. He was a member of the Rich Creek Baptist Church at Spanishburg.

Roy he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Ruby Josephine Gearhart and a brother Robert Carlyle Ellison.

Survivors include his best friend and wife of 45 years, Nancy Honaker Ellison; two children Roy M. Ellison Jr. and wife Amy of Bluefield, Joseph M. Ellison and wife Kama of Athens; three grandchildren; Natalie, Noah and Cooper; two siblings; Athlene Hatcher of Dunns, John E Ellison and wife Trudy of Princeton; brother-in-law Charles “Bud” Gearhart of Welch.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with pastors Ralph Calfee and Jim Mattox officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ellison Family Cemetery at Dunns with military honors given by Wright-Patterson Air Force Honor Guards and Mercer County Veterans Council.

Friends may visit with the family Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour at the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared with the family via

Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Honaker, John Ellison, Russell Ellison, Kevin Hatcher, Shawn Bush and Ronnie Wellman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Gearhart Jr.

The Ellison family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
