Betty Jane Yancey, 83, of Princeton Health Care Princeton, WV formerly of College Avenue, Bluefield, WV died Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital.
Born September 23, 1929 in Bluefield, WV, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin F. Yancey, Sr. and Juanita French Yancey.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Freda Yancey Nelson of Washington, D.C., Virginia Yancey Hurd of Savannah, GA, Ruth Frances of Bluefield, WV and Ben Yancey, Jr. of Charleston.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, E. Susan Yancey; and nieces and nephews, Cheryl Fairbrother, Jimmy Nelson, Arnold Hurd, Stephanie Brubaker and Benjamin Yancey, III.
She was a lifelong resident of Bluefield and was a graduate of Beaver High School. Jane's lifelong compassion and care for others started at a young age when she went to nursing school and became a nurse. She dedicated over forty years of her life in service to others as a nurse at St. Lukes Hospital.
She was a strong woman whose wit and laughter will be missed by all that knew her.
Her favorite colors were blue and gold. As an avid Mountaineers fan, she would tell you everything that you needed to know, if not more of the recent game.
She loved to walk. Her real passion was feeding birds. She loved taking care of her flowers. Her favorite pastime was getting a burger at McDonald's and feeding the birds in the parking lot.
She always looked forward to seeing her friends at Wal-Mart, Food City, Dollar General and Dollar Tree. You all meant the world to her.
A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, August 26, 2013 at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Bluefield at 2:00 PM with Minister Dan Webb officiating.
