Bernice I. Hazelwood, 78, of Thompsons Cemetery Road, Chestnut Knob, died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the residence of her daughter on Chestnut Knob. Born December 1, 1934 in Dott, WV, she was the daughter of the late Glemmie Billings and Alma Gilbert Billings.
Bernice was a homemaker and a member of the Faith Tabernacle at Chestnut Knob. She was a lifelong resident of the area.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Michael David Hazelwood; and two infant siblings.
Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Paul D. Hazelwood of Chestnut Knob; one daughter, Debra Kessler and husband Eddie of Chestnut Knob; one son, Lynuel Wade Hazelwood of Chestnut Knob; five grandchildren, Jerry Kessler and wife Heather of Glenwood, Sherri White and husband Mark of Spanishburg, Elisha Edgell and husband David of Glenwood, Jessica Benedum and husband Michael of Chestnut Knob, and Michael Paul Hazelwood and wife Brittany of Elgood; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Junior Billings and wife Joanie of Bluefield, VA and Bobby Billings of Oakvale; and two sisters, Linda Yost and husband Mallory of Speedway and Charlotte Hazelwood and husband Dana of Chestnut Knob.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the G.E. Davis Chapel of Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale with the Rev. Tommy Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow at Elgood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Kessler, Devin Kessler, Adam Kessler, Michael Paul Hazelwood, Sylvester Hunter, and Mike White.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, November 1, 2013 (today).
