ROANOKE, Va. —  Thomas “Tom” Howard Summers, 72, of Roanoke, VA, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 14, 2013 at his home. He was born in Bluefield, VA and was the son of the late John A. Summers and Anna Belle Scott Summers.

He was a lifetime member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and was currently attending Trinity Baptist Church in Roanoke, VA. He stayed very active in his community volunteering at Meals on Wheels, Lewis Gale Hospital and was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club. He was a proud member of the Roanoke Valley Mopar Club and the Roanoke Valley Mustang Club. He was always very proud of his 1970 Plymouth Superbird that he purchased new on his 29th birthday. He enjoyed actively participating in car shows. He was a successful business owner, enjoyed hunting and loved spending time at Smith Mountain Lake, VA with his family. He was very highly thought of by his community, family and friends. He received his schooling at Maclean’s Business College. He was the youngest of four children.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Audrey Elayne Tiller Griffin of Baton Rouge, LA and brother, Ronald K. Summers of Hollywood, SC.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Summers, Roanoke, VA; his daughter, Kim Summers, Clemmons, NC; two sons, Kevin Summers, Princeton, WV and Kelly Summers and wife Julia, Winston-Salem, NC; stepdaughters, Denise Settle and husband Phillip, Roanoke, VA and Michelle Head and husband Dale, Roanoke, VA; stepson, Mark Riley and wife Heather, Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Aryn Fain and husband Robert, Princeton, WV, Kaylon Summers, Clemmons, NC, Haley Summers, Bluefield, WV, Matthew Jacob Summers, Winston-Salem, NC, Chris Settle, Roanoke, VA, Brandon Webb, Roanoke, VA, Killian Head, Roanoke, VA, and Faith Settle, Roanoke, VA; brother, John Kenneth Summers and wife June, Waynesville, NC; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Summers will be held Saturday, October, 19, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va. with the Rev. Steve Aker and Pastor Tim Wilson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens with Mark Tiller, Tony Colosi, Brandon Webb, Alex Summers, Mark Riley and Dale Head serving as pallbearers. Friends may visit with the family Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.

 A continued celebration of life will be held  on Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 12-2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 1223 9th Street, SE, Roanoke, VA.
