Hazel (Leaborn) Payne, 80, of the Welch/Pineville Road, formerly of Jolo, WV, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at the home of her son Darrell Payne.
Leaborn was born March 31, 1933, in Bug Hurley Hollow near Jolo, WV, a daughter of the late George W. and Lora Adna Keene Wimmer. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, gardening, and canning.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Whitten Payne; a brother, Robert L. “Rob” Wimmer; an infant sister, Sarah L. Wimmer; a grandson, Tony Allen, and a great-granddaughter, Lyndsie Grace Blankenship.
Survivors include one son, Darrell Payne and wife Patty of the Welch/Pineville Road, with whom she made her home; one daughter, Sarah Blankenship and husband Johnny of Jolo, WV; two brothers, Grat Wimmer of Whitewood, VA, and Luther J. “Junior” Wimmer of Sevierville, TN; nine sisters, Goldie Roberts of Williamsburg, Virginia, Millie Gates of War, WV, Corby Mosley of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Pat Sheets of Laurel, DE, Nancy Payne of Paynesville, WV, Georgia Asbury of Raysal, WV, Mary Barrett of Cedar Bluff, VA, Lois Sheets of Princeton, WV, and Gertie Haire of Henderson, KY; three grandchildren, Christy Carter of Stopover, KY, Melissa Kennedy and husband Mark of Asheboro, NC, and Bradley Blankenship and wife Jessica of Ramseur, NC; and six grandchildren, Noah and Parker Kennedy, Lillie and Lexie Blankenship, and Joshua and Makayla Carter.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at 1 o’clock, with the Reverend Randall Dority, the Reverend Glenn Blankenship, and Elder Jack Horne officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV. Burial will follow in the Lone Oak Cemetery in Bug Hurley Hollow near Jolo, WV. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
Friends may visit with the family at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV, Monday evening, September 23, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m., where an evening service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
