Margaret Maxine Umberger

BLUEFIELD — BLUEFIELD — Margaret Maxine Umberger, 74, of Bluefield, W.Va., died Monday December 2, 2013 at her home.  

Born October 5, 1939 in Princeton, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late, Ray Gordon Childress and Goldie Ruth Gillespie Childress. Mrs. Umberger was a homemaker and a member of Ada Chapel in Bluefield. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #565, Fraternal Order of Eagles #857 and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary #9696.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Ray “Sam” Umberger Sr.; sisters, Verna French and Judy Meadows; brothers, Robert “Bobby” Childress and Ronnie Childress; and stepson, Julian Ray Umberger Jr.

Survivors include her children, Kathy Umberger of Bluefield, W.Va., Peggy Hager and Sharon Tilley of Princeton, W.Va., and Ray “Joe” Waddell of Huntington, W.Va.; one sister, Irene Guilfoyle of Fort Meyers, Fla.; step-children, Rick Umberger of Bluefield, Tim Umberger of Bluefield, Chris Umberger of Bluefield, Ruth Black of Rocky Gap, Va., and Connie Kelley of Bluefield; seven grandchildren, Kari Bailey and husband, Ryan of Anchorage, Ala., Kelli Buckner and husband, Nick of Bluefield, Va., Dustin Tilley, Brandle Tilley, Ryan Tilley, Leslie Dalton of Princeton, W.Va. and Michael Waddell; nine great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Thursday December 5, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday December 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Bassett officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.  

Memorial contribution may be made in Mrs. Umberger's memory to Ada Chapel, 814 Harry Street, Bluefield, WV 24701.
