Marilyn “Sue” Bartel

BLUEFIELD — Marilyn “Sue” Bartel, 75, of Bluefield, WV, went to be with the Lord on August 14, 2013.

She was born on October 24, 1937 in Bastian, VA to William C. Morehead and Eula Smith Morehead. She graduated from Rocky Gap High School in 1955. She then graduated from McClains Business School in Bluefield, WV. She married the boy next door, Oswald “Sam” Bartel on May 14, 1961. Together they started a family and a few years later a business, Bluefield Dental Lab in Bluefield, WV. She worked as the bookkeeper for the business while raising their three children, “Sue” and “Sam” were partners in business and in life.

She was a long-time member of Maple View Church of Christ. She was known for her loving heart, boisterous personality and contagious smile. She loved being a mother, wife and friend for those around her. She had a strong and abiding faith in serving the Lord and will be missed by all.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oswald “Sam” Bartel; and her brothers and sisters, Bill Morehead, Marshall Morehead, Richard Morehead, Harry Morehead, Bess Brown, Phyllis Radford and Carol Mahoney.  

She is survived by her children, Kurt Bartel and wife Janet of Bluefield, WV, Karen Kidd and her husband Mark of Charlotte, NC, and Tricia Stansell and husband Charles of Asheville, NC; one brother, Max Morehead and his wife Emma of Norfolk, VA; one granddaughter, Brandi Augusta Kidd, and numerous nieces and nephews.  

The family will receive friends on Saturday August 24, 2013 at Mercer Funeral Home from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Tony Reed officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maple View Church of Christ, 149 Robins Rest Road, Bluefield, WV 24701.
