CAMP CREEK — John Henry Ellison, 84, of Camp Creek, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 28, 2014 at his residence.

Born December 14, 1929, to the late Gilmer Hoke Ellison and Florence Martin Ellison at Camp Creek, WV. He was raised a Baptist and was a believer in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour.

John served 20 years in the U.S. Army as a research technician at the U.S. Army Biological Defense Research Center at Fort Detrick, MD. His Commanding Officer in the Army, Ray Frank, summed up John's character by stating: “John was a good man. He was the best.”

He traveled extensively in the United States and overseas. Upon retiring from the Army, he worked in the Cast House at Eastalco Aluminum Co. in Frederick, MD. Afterwards, he returned to WV and worked as a roof bolter in the coal mines of Southern West Virginia until he retired.

John loved traveling throughout the U.S. with his wife, Audrey. He loved the outdoors, walking in the woods (especially with his grandchildren) and gardening. In his younger days he enjoyed,  “sanging”, fishing, and golfing.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Crum, Doug, Daniel, Roscoe, and Donzie and his sisters, Nellie Wright, Lessie Maxey, and Frances Herndon.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Audrey Clem Ellison; his children, Daniel and Shara Ellison, of McArthur, WV, Roy and Debbie Ellison, of Camp Creek, WV, Philip and Dianne Ellison, of Smithsburg, MD, Cheryl and Kenneth Fox, of Camp Creek, WV, Pamela and Brian Hughes, of Columbia, VA; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; siblings, Phyllis Polk, of Eccles, WV, Betty Lou Meadows, of Camp Creek, WV, Rosalea Lilly, of Sanford, NC, Linda Moore, of Shady Spring, WV, Sudie Lilly, of Milford, DE, Abe Ellison, of Milford, DE,  and Russell Ellison, of Camp Creek, WV. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A private burial will be held at the Gad Cemetery on Ellison School Road at a later date. Family and friends are welcome to visit with the Ellison family at their residence at 147 Ellison School Road, Camp Creek, WV.
