Ellen Kathleen “Kay” Bennett Pais

BRISTOL, Va — Ellen Kathleen “Kay” Bennett Pais, 88, of Bristol, VA, a former resident of Magnolia St. in Princeton, died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at her residence. Born May 27, 1925 in Bramwell, she was the daughter of the late Pose and Mae Bennett.

Kay married Ateo E. Pais on March 5, 1945 and they moved to Princeton in 1954 from Kimball, WV. She retired from Kroger in 1985 after working 25 years at the Princeton store. She was a member of Princeton Presbyterian Church and Princeton Chapter #53 Order of Eastern Star. Kay enjoyed special times with family at picnics, trips to the beach that included her children, grandchildren, and many other family members, or anytime the extended family was together. Christmas was always a very special time for the family filled with laughter and food and Ateo calling Kay “Santa Claus”.

Kay never knew a stranger and especially loved small children. She enjoyed sewing and crafts, dancing, and shopping.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ateo Pais;  four brothers, William “Bill” Bennett, Richard Bennett, Kenneth Bennett, and Paul Russell Bennett; three sisters, Edith McBride, Jewel Larkin, and Carroll Jean McGinnis Carter; and grandson, Scott Thompson.

Kay is survived by two daughters, Cynthia P. Lewis of Surfside Beach, SC, and Sharon L. Hill and husband David of Bristol, VA; four dear and special grandchildren, Kim L. Barnett and husband Mark, and Jodie Kaye Thompson, all of Marietta, GA, Karalee H. Greenwald and husband Michael of Santa Cruz, CA, and Brennan D. Hill of Nashville, TN; three very special great-grandchildren, Nia and Ateo Thompson, and Mabel Greenwald; special extended great-grandchildren, Michaelynn and Bryson Fanning; one sister, Betty Ann Leedy of Surfside Beach, SC; and several nieces and nephews by birth and marriage.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Steve Robinson of Highlands Fellowship in Bristol, VA, officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour Tuesday at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton.
