BAPTIST VALLEY, Va —
Eugene Fernandes, age 78, of Baptist Valley, Va., formerly of West Berlin, N.J., died Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn. He was born December 23, 1934 in the Raysal community of McDowell County, W.Va., and was a son of Caroline Matovich Fernandes of Bishop, Ga., formerly of Prichard, W.Va. and the late Antonio Fernandes Sr.
Mr. Fernandes had worked most of his life in concrete preparation plants and was a member of the New Jersey Electricians Union, where he served as a union representative. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a humble and reserved man; he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his mother, those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Vesta Mae Trent Fernandes; daughter, Beatrice M. Fernandes of Pine Hill, N.J.; sons, John K. Morrison of Baptist Valley, Va. and Mitchell D. Morrison Sr. and wife, Denise of Sarasota, Fla.; sister, Violet Harter of Bishop, Ga.; brothers, Joseph “Joe” Fernandes and wife, Irma of Hammonton, N.J., Antonio “Tony” Fernandes Jr. and wife, Kay of The Village, Fla., and Rudolph Fernandes of Pine Hill, N.J.; six grandchildren, Tamyra Fernandes and husband, Arthur Snellbaker of Monroeville, N.J., Kimberly Langley and husband, Richard, Meghan Fernandes, and Amanda Fernandes all of Pine Hill, N.J., Mitchell Morrison Jr. and wife, Janine of Washington Township, N.J. and Maxwell Morrison of Sarasota, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, other family members and friends also survive.
A memorial service for Eugene Fernandes will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va.
In honoring Mr. Fernandes wishes his body will be cremated and final disposition will be private.
