BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Jerry Thornton Shrader, Sr., 77 of Slade Road, Bluefield, VA left this world Sunday, August 4, 2013.
He was a retired painter, who worked for many families in the area. He loved to fish and hunt with his buddies and his son and later, with his grandsons.
Born August 19, 1935, he was the son of the late Garnis Vernon and Virginia Turley Shrader.
Those who went before him, in addition to his parents, were his grandparents, Samuel Homer Shrader and Virginia Wilburn Shrader and his sister, Mary Louise Flannigan and stepmother, Gladys Gott Shrader.
Surviving him is his son, Jerry Thornton Shrader, Jr. and wife Chris, 4 grandchildren, Crystal Dawn Shrader and husband Curtis, Jerry Thornton Shrader III (JJ) and wife Michelle, Matthew Scott Shrader and wife Amy and Christopher Cody Shrader, his companion of 36 years, Helen Ruble, 3 great-grandchildren, Steven Andrew Shrader, Jonathan Howard Shrader and his little cheerleader, Madalyn Brooke Shrader (Maddie), 3 uncles that he considered his brothers, Bill, Danny and Dorn Shrader.
Honoring his wishes, he will be cremated. He also asked that no services be held.
He would rather be remembered being with his fishing buddies, Bill, Jake, Buddy, Luke, Arlin and Bernard, who all went ahead to save him a place on the river bank.
Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, VA is serving the Shrader family.
