BLAND, Va. —
Watson Wayne Richardson, 89, of Bland, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Paul B. Hall Medical Center, Paintsville, Ky. He was born on June 29, 1923 in Bland, the son of the late Samuel Stuart and Artie Edna King Richardson.
He was a Army Air Force veteran of World War II, a Bland County Game Warden from 1954 to 1985, a charter member of the Mechanicsburg Ruritan club, a honorary member and first Vice President of the Bland County Historical Society, a former chairman of the Bland County Democratic Party, a member of Bland County American Legion Post #20, a Honorary member of the Bland County Future Farmers Club, instrumental in the founding and development of the Indian Village on Wolf Creek, a member of the Mechanicsburg Christian Church, and a past honoree of the Bland County Festival of Leaves Citizenship Award.
He is survived by one son, Joseph (Jody) Richardson, Durham, N.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Richard Lowe, Lowmansville, Ky.; one brother, David Richardson, Bluefield, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Shari Chewning, Teresa Adkins, Kevin Chewning, Jody Lowe; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mechanicsburg Christian Church with the Rev. Tom Maurer and the Rev. Paul Looney officiating. Military graveside rites will be at the Mechanicsburg Cemetery by Bland VFW Post #7969 and American Legion Post #20.
Visitation will be at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, Va. on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
