Dr. Wade graduated from Columbia Military Academy in 1949. In 1950, he married Faye Alexander in Gatsden, Ala. He attended Vanderbilt University in 1949 for his undergraduate education; he then attended the University of Alabama in 1953 for dental school, graduated in 1956 with his Doctor of Medical Dentistry.
Dr. Wade was commissioned in the USAF in May 1956 and was assigned to Palm Beach Air Force Base.
In 1958, Dr. Wade opened a private practice in Lakeworth, Florida until 1961. In July 1961, he was assigned to Headquarters 12th Airforce in Waco, Texas and served in Vietnam from 1963-1964. Upon his return home, he attended graduate school 1964-1965 at the University of Pennsylvania for Oral Surgery. He completed a three-year residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas until 1968. Dr. Wade continued to serve his country with tours throughout the country and world including stateside in Mississippi, California, Alaska and Florida. In 1979, Colonel Wade retired from the USAF following a brilliant career and service to his country.
In retirement, his interest included sailing, gardening, and computer science. He moved to Bluefield in August.
He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 63 years, Faye Wade, children, Pam Lane and Bill Wade and his wife Andrea, grandchildren, Carolyn and Jessica Lane and Kristen Wade along with great-grandchildren, William and Rebecca Wade, and sister, Harriett VanHooser of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Services to celebrate the life of Colonel Dr. Wade will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Dr. Les Davenport speaking. Full military honors will be given under the direction of Seymour Johnson AFB Honor Guard at the funeral home.
Friends may visit with the family Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
