Billy Scott Linkous

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Billy Scott Linkous, 82, of Bluefield, Va., passed away on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 at Westwood Health Care Center after a battle with cancer.

Bill was born in Bluefield, W.Va. to the late Aaron and Nell Linkous. He spent all of his young life in Iaeger, W.Va. where he graduated in 1948 from Iaeger High School. After serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, he returned to Bluefield where he worked for the Norfolk Southern Railroad for the next 42 years having retired in 1990.

He was a member of Graham Christian Church in Bluefield, Va. There he served as a Deacon and sang in the church choir. He also served the church in many other capacities. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9696 in Bluefield, Va. Bill was an avid fisherman and enjoyed participating in Bass Tournaments for many years, and was an avid bowler.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Melda Dean Linkous; a son, Donald Scott Linkous and wife, Donna of Bluefield, Va.; one daughter, Vickie Gillespie and husband, Bob of Bluefield, Va.; three grandchildren, Paul Lazenby and wife, Stephanie of Gulf Port, Miss., Scott Linkous and wife, Meghan of Midlothian, Va., Katie Tinder and husband, Douglas of Bluefield, Va.; and one great-grandchild, Scotty Linkous of Midlothian, Va.; and his cherished parrot, Katie Bird.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Graham Christian Church in Bluefield, Va. with the Rev. Gary Lyons and the Rev. A.C. Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Pallbearers will be Mike McHaffa, Ray Workman, Jay Rasnake, Archie McCoy, Barry Miller and Aaron Shawver. Graveside services will be conducted by the Bluefield, Va. VFW Memorial Post 9696 and the Pocahontas American Legion 14.

Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Joash Fund, Graham Christian Church, 1101 Virginia Ave., Bluefield, VA  24605.

The family may be reached at his home or at the home of Donnie Linkous, 234 Wintercreek Dr., Bluefield, Va.

Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va. is serving the Billy Scott Linkous family.
