NAPLES, Fla. — NAPLES, Fla. — Elizabeth Lou “Betsy” Newsome passed away peacefully at the age of 80 in Naples, Fla., October 17, 2013.

She was born October 18, 1932 in Whitman, Logan County, West Virginia, the third child of eight born to Easter Collins and Herrick Odell Bartoe. Betsy married Chester Lee Newsome and raised four children primarily in Richlands, Va. where they based their efforts on their family and community. Betsy served the volunteer organization at Clinch Valley Community Hospital for many years. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  

Betsy was a woman of strength, faith and optimism. Her influence on her family is a long lasting legacy and a fountain of hope for all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Chester Lee Newsome and her son, Larry Chester Newsome.

Betsy is survived by her daughter, Kathy Lou Fields and husband, John of Rutledge, Tenn.; sons, Truman Odell Bradshaw of Richlands, Va. and Gary Douglas Newsome and wife, Kathy Lynn of Montevideo, Uruguay; sister, Lucretia Borak of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Douglas Bartoe of Williamson, W.Va.

Her unconditional love for all will be felt by many generations to come including 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.  

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va. with Michael Crowder and Michael McClure officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be John Wesley Fields, II, Truman Odell Bradshaw, II, Jeremy McGlothlin, Tyler Rowe, Dakota Bradshaw, Garrett Douglas Newsome, and Stafford Lee Newsome.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Lee Newsome and William Reed Newsome.  

A visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.
